Were
you one of the lucky ones? Or perhaps you've heard tales of
tying that canvas water bag to the front of the car, loading the
luggage and kids, and traveling Route 66 on the vacation trip of a
lifetime?
Anyone who who was lucky enough to
travel Route 66 in its heyday knows that this historic highway is
more than just a map
or a strip of pavement. It's a state of mind. If you
made that trip yourself, you have a story to tell. If you've
only read about it, you can still discover the mysteries of
America's most famous highway to adventure.
You could have been
a dustbowl emigrant on your way to hope and a better life in
California. Or maybe you were part of one of the troop
convoys heading to war in the Pacific and then a weary soldier
anxious to get back home. After the war, you could have been
a tourist. There were thousands of them ready to forget the news
reels, rationing, and memories of sacrifice and fear. They
were anxious to soak in the sights of our beautiful country.
Many of them returned home with their stories and their memories.
Others packed up and headed west to a new life and a whole
different culture of hope.
If you have a story to tell, we invite you to share it with us on
our newest website:
Route-66-Memories.com
. Or if you would just like to
hold on to a memory or renew one with someone you know, we invite
you to consider one of our Route-66 themed gifts.
